MC Holds Seminar on Katarungang Pambarangay

        Mabalacat College, through its Community Extension Services, hold a seminar on Katarungang Pambarangay on February 17, 2011 at the Educational Technology Laboratory.

            The seminar was participated by newly elected Barangay Officials of Barangay Dolores, Mabalacat, Pampanga. Atty. Robert John I. Donesa shared his expertise on the local government code.

            The seminar is the first of a series to be conducted by the College for the benefit of all the newly-appointed members of the Pangkat Tagapamayapa. The seminar aimed to equipt the members of the Pangkat for their tasks in rendering justice at the barangay level.

MC Student Champs the National History Week T-Shirt Design Contest

Norman B. Cruz, a sophomore student of the MC College of Education, bags the 1st place plum of the History Week T-Shirt Design Contest organized by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) between August 16 to September 30, 2010.

The theme of the design contest focuses on the grand commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal this coming June 19, 2011. The contest is open to all college and high school students nationwide.

Mr. Cruz’ heraldic-inspired design captured not only the essence of the commemoration but also trend of today’s t-shirt fashion. His entry is also the pick of Team Manila, a multi-disciplinary graphic design studio and a famed designer of patriotic T-shirts.

The Board of Judges is chaired by Arch. Lorelie DC. de Viana, Dean of the Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts, Far Eastern University. The members are: Mr. Ryan Palad, manager of GSIS Museo ng Sining; Ms. Mica Cabildo of Team Manila; Arch. Veronica Dado and Wilkie Delumen of the NHCP. The judging was done on October 19, 2010 at the NHCP hall, where the entries are on exhibit. The awarding ceremonies were held last December 20, 2010 at the NHCP, Ermita, Manila.

MC Wins Top Awards in Ligligan Kalutung Kapampangan

Mabalacat College (MC) Institute of Hospitality Management participated in a series of food preparation competitions held at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando on December 9, 2010. The competitions were sponsored by the Provincial Government of Pampanga in celebration of the 439th Aldo Ning Kapampangan.

The contest has three categories: the main course, dessert and amuse bouche (appetizer) category. In the main course category, MC young chefs Eleazar G. Cabuang, Jr., Christopher M. Castro, Shervin Ann G. Aguilar and Kenneth S. Tolentino presented Lenguang Binalut King Pandasal with Creamy Mushroom Sauce. They won 3rd place.

In the dessert category, MC young chefs Reymor O. Bunagan and Grace Lorelei C. Arma presented Sapin-sapin, Turun a Mungu and Sinantan Tart. They won 1st place. While in the amuse bouche (appetizer) category, MC young chefs Khristian Lee and Arvin B. Sandig presented Kinilong Asang Tanigue Queng Kamias, Linagat a Paro Queng Atcharang Apalya and Tabang Talangka Sushi. The group won 1st place. Kodus to the coaches, Mrs. Anne Marie A. Lindo and Mr. Rennier Perez.

Dubbed as Ligligan Kalutung Kapampangan, the activity is participated by all HRM colleges in the Province of Pampanga. Once again, Mabalacat College proved to be a premiere institution in the province of Pampanga.

MC Board of Trustees Visits Taiwan for Academic and Architectural Benchmarking

The hardworking members of the Board of Trustees of Mabalacat College capped the year 2010 with a memorable academic and architectural benchmarking at Taipei, Taiwan. The BOT members, headed by Dr. Leonardo C. Canlas, visited major landmarks and universities in Taiwan on November 29, 2010 to December 3, 2010.  

The purpose of the visit is to view academic campus landscapes and urban architecture and develop fresh ideas for infrastructural development of the College. Among others, the MC delegation visited the campus of the National Taiwan University (NTU) where they observed the facilities of the College of Science. Noteworthy is the mode of transportation of the students at the very spacious NTU campus – the bicycles – which is not only healthy for the students but also friendly to the environment.

The BOT returned with much to share about the dynamic, orderly and highly-developed Taipei they discovered.

MC Celebrates World Teachers’ Day


 With the theme, Teachers: My Heroes, MC celebrated the World Teachers’ Day on October 5, 2010 at the Clubhouse B, Xevera, Mabalacat, Pampanga. The event was organized by the MC Student Society under the auspices of the VPAA and VPSAS. Mayor Marino P. Morales and Vice Mayor Noel Castro graced the occasion with their presence.

Ms. Dianna T. Garcia of the College of Education, in her opening remarks, extolled the teachers, calling them “our heroes” while Ms. Ivy T. De Guzman of the College of Information Technology Education serenaded them with her fitting rendition of Tyler Collins’ Thanks to You.

Student representatives from each College, in behalf of their classmates, expressed gratefulness to their mentors. As a respond, Ms. Edwina M. Dungca, in behalf of the teachers, challenged the students to study hard to achieve their goals. Mr. Carlos R. Paras, MC Student Society President, delivered an Ode to a Teacher while Ms. Roselyn M. Vergara, Equalizer Editor-in-Chief, led the Prayer for Teachers.

The World Teachers’ Day is celebrated annually since 1994. It commemorates the anniversary of the signing UNESCO/ILO Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers in 1966. The MC tribute was hosted by Ms. Roselyn M. Vergara and Mr. Richard John W. Hernandez.

MC Adopts Barangay Calumpang

Mabalacat College adopts Barangay Calumpang, Mabalacat, Pampanga as the beneficiary of its thrust program of Community Organization and Development for five Academic Years (2010 to 2015). This is embodied in a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on October 2, 2010 between MC, represented by its president, Dr. Leonardo C. Canlas, and the barangay, represented by its Chairman, Hon. Jaime P. Jimenez.

            In his remarks, Dr. Canlas said that MC and Barangay Calumpang shall collaborate on a baseline study to identify and assess the needs of the adopted community and formulate programs to address these needs. Chairman Jimenez expressed hope that the agreement may soon be expanded to include scholarships to assist students coming from the barangay.

The MOA signing was witnessed by Mr. Mario C. Felipe, MC NSTP Coordinator; Ms. Josephine V. LosbaƱes, MC CES Coordinator; Atty. Robert John I. Donesa, MC Legal Counsel and Hon. Tito P. Garcia, Barangay Kagawad.

Barangay Calumpang is one of the most depressed barangays in the Municipality of Mabalacat. Its territory includes sitios Monicayo, Manggahan, Tome, Malupa and Pandan. In 2007, the barangay is home to approximately 438 inhabitants.

Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2010, Matagumpay na Ipinagdiwang

            Masaya, makulay, at hindi malilimutan ang mga pagtatanghal na idinaos ng mga guro at mag-aaral ng Mabalacat College sa pagtatapos ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa noong Agosto 25, 2010 sa ganap na ala-una ng hapon sa Events Centre, SM Clark, Pampanga.

Sa ilalim ng temang Sa Pangangalaga ng Wika at Kalikasan, Wagas na Pagmamahal Talagang Kailangan, nagpasiklaban sa galing at talino ang mga mag-aaral sa iba’t-ibang kolehiyo. Sila ay naglaban-laban sa larangan ng Madulang Sabayang Pagbigkas, Makabagong Indak sa Makalumang Tugtugin, Pag-awit ng Isahan, Sayaw ng Lahi, Lakan at Lakambini ng Wika 2010.

Sa larangan ng Madulang Sabayang Pagbigkas ng akdang Ang Kamay ni Amado V. Hernandez, ang napakagandang pagtatanghal ng mga mag-aaral ng College of Education ang nagbigay daan sa pagpanalo nito ng Unang Gatimpala. Pumangalawa naman ang CITE.
Ang Malapiyestang Pagtatanghal ng Sayaw ng Lahi ng College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.

Sa larangan naman ng Makabagong Indak sa Makalumang Tugtugin, ang masaya at kamangha-manghang sayaw ng College of Hotel and Restaurant Management and Tourism ang ginawaran ng Unang Gatimpala. Pumangalawa ang IT.

Sa larangan ng Sayaw ng Lahi sa tugtug ng Atin Ko Pung Singsing, ang magara at malapiestang produksiyon ng College of Education ang nag-uwi ng Unang Gatimpala. Pumangalawa ang tampok ng HRMT. Sa Pag-awit ng Isahan, si Ivy S. Maluya ng HRMT ang itinanghal na kampeonato. Siya ay umawit ng Lipad ng Pangarap ni Dessa.

Sa labanan ng angking kisig at talino, si G. Carlo A. Simbajon ng College of Information Technology Education ang nanalo bilang Lakan ng Wika 2010. Habang Sa labanan ng angking ganda at talino, si Bb. Misty Ann C. Nabong ang nakoronahan bilang Lakambini ng Wika 2010.

Sa mga guro at kawani naman, Si G. Rolando M. Baluyut, guro ng NSTP, ang nanalo ng Maka-Pilipinong Kasoutan. Si Bb. Edwina M. Dungca, guro ng English, ang nanalo sa Maka-Pilipinang Kasoutan.

            Sina G. Lindo Asahar, G. Melchor Balboa, G. Arvin Roncal, at Gng. Rosanna E. Ramos ang nagsilbing mga hurado sa mga patimpalak. Isa na naman itong natatanging tagumpay na naitaguyod ng Departamento ng Filipino sa pamumuno ng kanilang Koordineytor na si G. Christian Allan C. Cagano, katuwang ang mga opisyales ng Filipino Club ’10 sa ilalim ng pamumuno no G. Richard V. Hernandez.
